Readers Blog - DIY "Bridesmaid Belts"

After going on that flower blog you posted earlier today, I found this girl's blog about weddings, but there are some cool do-it-yourself projects on it: http://www.labellebride.com/2010/01/diy-wedding-ideas-diy-bride-or.html

This project is for making "bridesmaid belts" but I'm sure you could use this to make other things like headbands...the nice thing is that each one is so different.

DO IT YOURSELF BELTS..

Materials:
1) Different fabrics (Tulle, organza...whatever you like!)

2) Scissors

3) Needle and thread

4) Belt

Steps:

1) Cut your fabrics into long strips about a foot long.

2) Roll or bunch the fabric width-wise.

3) Begin to roll the fabric around your finger, holding the end down in the center. We twisted the fabric as we went around to create a twisted rosette. There's no wrong way to do this. It can be loose or tight depending on the look you're going for.

4) Continue to twist and shape your rosette.

5) After a few rotations grab your needle and thread and begin sewing your shape into place with a few stitches here and there.

6) Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you run out of fabric or have reach the desired size for your rosette

7) Your rosette is finished. At this point you can sew it onto your belt.

8) OR you can make a cute bed of 'leaves' for it to lay on by pleating a round piece of tulle and sewing it like you see in the picture. (Sorry we don't have steps for this part. My sister-in-law made it super quick but I did want to include it!)

9) Sew the rosette onto the leaves

10) You're done!
